Reiki for nurses health

Reiki for Nurses

As a direct result of their beautiful and beneficial but stressful chosen career and work environment, nurses face high levels of stress and anxiety on a daily basis. Over time, this continued stress can lead to a number of physical, mental and emotional issues for nurses that may reduce quality of life and decrease productivity. To prevent complications from work-related stress and anxiety, nurses must find ways to relax and regroup during their downtime. Fortunately, research has shown that Reiki sessions can produce positive results among nurses dealing with chronic stress.

Nursing and Stress

According to the National Institutes of Health, stress is very common among nurses in all areas of the field. Typical sources of stress on-the-job include patient care, responsibilities, making decisions and dealing with changes. Most nurses also deal with difficult interpersonal relationships, staffing issues, long work hours, emotional stress related to dealing with human suffering and frequent physical labor. Because of all of these issues, nurses are at high risk for a condition known as “burnout syndrome.” Some of the symptoms of burnout syndrome include reduced personal accomplishment, depersonalization and emotional exhaustion. In many cases, nurses suffering from burnout syndrome will experience problems in both their personal and professional lives, as it is difficult to separate these two domains completely.

About Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction technique that may help nurses who are already dealing with burnout syndrome, as well as those who are dealing with only mild stress. This technique can be performed in a Reiki Practitioner’s office and is entirely non-invasive.

Reiki for the care of Nursing Professionals

Reiki for the loving care of Nursing Professionals

Some of the benefits of Reiki for nurses may include:

Reiki helps to reduce anxiety and stress.
Reiki sessions can induce relaxation in the client, thus reducing stress and anxiety. Stress and anxiety are so common among nurses. This effect can be very beneficial, especially among nurses with burnout syndrome.

Reiki helps bring about a sense of balance.
Many Reiki clients report feeling more balanced, both physically and emotionally, after participating in Reiki sessions.

Reiki may help reduce pain.
Because of the intensive physical labor that is often involved in nursing, many nurses suffer from aches and pains. Reiki sessions may reduce sensations of pain, thus improving nurses’ overall sense of well-being.

Reiki may boost the immune system.
Nurses often work long, odd hours, which can be hard on the body. Unfortunately, nurses are frequently exposed to bacteria, viruses and other pathogens while working with patients. Reports indicate that Reiki may potentially boost the immune system, due to a relaxation response, which may prevent nurses from getting sick as often or being vulnerable to infections.

Reiki provides a sense of control.
Although nurses often have the opportunity to assume leadership positions, they often feel as though their life is not entirely in their own control. They may not be able to set their own schedules, decide what tasks they will take on or make other important decisions that impact their lives on a daily basis. When a nurse engages in Reiki sessions, however, he or she is taking control over his or her own body, mind and health. This can restore a sense of control, thus improving self-esteem and quality of life.

Relevant Research

A recent research study explored the relationship between Reiki and nurses suffering from burnout syndrome. During the study, researchers examined the effects of Reiki sessions on certain physical indicators, such as blood pressure, α-amylase and secretory immunoglobulin A. The study included eighteen nurses, all of whom were diagnosed with burnout syndrome. When the study was complete, researchers analyzed the results and determined that nurses who participated in regular Reiki sessions experienced a significant improvement in diastolic blood pressure and secretory immunoglobulin A.

Implications

Based on both research and anecdotal reports, it seems that Reiki could be beneficial to nurses in multiple ways. Nurses who are already stressed and dealing with burnout syndrome may experience a reduction in anxiety after participating in Reiki sessions, which may help them to deal with their stress more effectively and enjoy a richer, more productive life. Likewise, even nurses who are only mildly stressed and/or experiencing no complications of work-related stress may experience benefits from this treatment. In fact, it is possible that nurses who engage in Reiki before they begin experiencing the symptoms of burnout syndrome may be able prevent this syndrome from ever occurring and/or reduce its severity. Furthermore, Reiki has been shown to produce other benefits, including an increased sense of balance, improved feelings of control and more, all of which may be helpful to individuals working in the field of nursing.

Nonetheless, nurses should keep in mind that Reiki is not the only effective method of reducing stress. Nurses can also lower their stress levels and reduce anxiety by spending time with friends and families, engaging in regular exercise and participating in enjoyable activities and hobbies. For best results, nurses should combine Reiki sessions with other methods of relaxation. Nurses who are experiencing severe anxiety, depression or other such symptoms should also talk to a qualified physician and/or licensed therapist.

History of reiki

History and Traditions of Reiki

The Reiki method of healing was founded on the revelation and understanding of the body’s energy system. Reiki Practitioners strive to improve health and quality of life by offering Reiki energy and restoring balance. Reiki is used in self-care, for the care of one’s family, and is offered in private practice and in hospitals and medical settings as an adjunct and supportive therapy to wellness and traditional medical care. The form of Reiki that many people practice today, Usui Reiki, has been in use for over one hundred years.

The Founder of Reiki

The history of Usui Reiki begins with its founder, Dr. Mikao Usui. Sometimes called the Usui Sensei, Dr. Mikao Usui was born to a wealthy Buddhist family in 1865. Dr. Usui’s family was able to give their son a well-rounded education for the time. As a child, Dr. Usui studied in a Buddhist monastery where he was taught martial arts, swordsmanship, and the Japanese form of Chi Kung, known as Kiko.

Throughout his education, Dr. Usui had an interest in medicine, psychology, and theology. It was this interest that prompted him to seek a way to heal himself and others using the laying on of hands. It was his desire to find a method of healing that was unattached to any specific religion and religious belief so that his system would be accessible to everyone.

Dr. Usui traveled a great deal during his lifetime. He studied healing systems of all types and held different professions including reporter, secretary, missionary, public servant and guard. Finally, he became a Buddhist priest/monk and lived in a monastery.

Spiritual Awakening and Development of Reiki

Sometime during his years of training in the monastery, Dr. Usui attended his own training rediscovery course in a cave on Mount Kurama. For 21 days, Dr. Usui fasted, meditated and prayed. On the morning of the twenty-first day, Dr. Usui experienced an event that would change his life forever. He saw ancient Sanskrit symbols that helped him develop the system of healing he had been struggling to invent. Usui Reiki was born.

After his spiritual awakening on Mount Kurama, Dr. Usui established a clinic for healing and teaching in Kyoto. As the practice of Usui Reiki was spreading, Dr. Usui became known for his healing practice.

Further Development of Reiki

Mikao Usui founded his first Reiki clinic and school in Tokyo in 1922. Before he died, Dr. Usui taught several Reiki masters to ensure that his system would not be forgotten. Among them was Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a former naval officer who set up a Reiki clinic in Tokyo.

Dr. Hayashi is credited with further developing the Usui system of Reiki by adding hand positions to more thoroughly cover the body. Dr. Hayashi also changed and refined the attunement process. Using his improved system, Dr. Hayashi trained several more Reiki Masters, including a woman named Hawayo Takata. Mrs. Takata was a Japanese-American woman who originally went to Dr. Hayashi for healing. Upon learning the system herself, Mrs. Takata took Reiki home to the United States.

Spread of Reiki to the West

Hawayo Takata was Tokyo in 1935. Mrs. Takata was very ill and in need of surgery, but she strongly felt through her instinct that she didn’t need that surgery to be healed. After asking her doctor about alternative treatments for her condition, she was told about the Reiki practitioner in town. Mrs. Takata had never heard of Reiki, but she made an appointment, even though she was slightly skeptical. Following her initial meeting with Dr. Hayashi, Mrs. Takata saw Dr. Hayashi on a daily basis. She found the sessions to be relaxing and pleasant and, ultimately, healing.

As time passed, Mrs. Takata learned Reiki One and Reiki Two. When she returned to the United States, Mrs. Takata continued to practice Reiki and eventually became a Reiki Master. Much of this happened near the beginning of World War II.

Mrs. Takata wanted to spread her system of healing to others. She made changes to her Reiki practice, then used Reiki to help heal others in the United States.

Modern Reiki

Today, people who practice Reiki use the methods developed by Dr. Usui, the founder of Usui Reiki. The genius of Reiki is that practitioners can utilize Reiki to help heal themselves and for their own wellness and enhanced well-being. In fact, working on self-healing is a prerequisite for offering Reiki healing to others. Modern Reiki masters can offer the Reiki energy to others through gentle static light pressure touch using the specific traditional Reiki hand positions and even over long distances like prayer is offered. Reiki healing complements many medicinal therapies and traditional medicine and can be used to help assist in the potential healing of people suffering from pain, illness, disease and more.

Modern Reiki is becoming more popular as time goes on, and the lineage of Reiki masters is growing every day. With the return to Usui Reiki, many people are using this traditional hands-on therapy to heal themselves and others.

BP Assist, got to have it!

for wellness

PB Assist is a stomach saver

Although PB Assist is only slated for a portion of the 30-Day program, We take it every day. It really helps with digestion and makes the intestines healthier on the whole. It’s a wonderful detox that you can use during treatment as well.

One of our Wellness advocates had their gallbladder removed several years ago, and food enzymes, like Terrazyme, are very beneficial… they help break down a variety of different foods. This makes digestion easier on the Liver–since the bile from the gallbladder is no longer available, the Liver has to work harder. The enzymes help offset the overwork, as well as help in other ways, minimizing gas and bloating, amongst a few… plus, the body is better able to assimilate the nutrients of the food. PB Assist is also beneficial in this regard, too; but, more at the intestinal level. So, this is also critical to a good detox.

LEMON–don’t forget the Lemon EO in your water! A couple drops in about 16ozs. We don’t add Lemon to each glass we drink… but, we do make sure to have it at least once a day for the “alkalization” effect it has on the body.

Just to recap from the previous discussion: Many common diseases, today, are related to a too acidic (pH) level in the body. With today’s Western diet, it’s easy to become too acidic: processed foods, white sugar treats, white and/or processed bread, frozen meals, take-out food, etc. Yes, some of this tastes really good, but eating such needs to take more forethought: What does this stuff do to my body, now and over time?  See next post-Zendocrine.

Living a empowered life with Doterra

When I joined Doterra it was such a wonderful fit for my busy lifestyle.

I work with families every day, teaching swimming and helping seniors as an in-home health care worker.  I have people ask me for advice on everything, from keeping active in your senior years to a baby advice,  I use the Doterra website for help. I’m a mother of four almost adults 17 -21 in (2018). My kids kept me on my toes. My nutritional intake was the leftover meals for my family. A good nights sleep was 4 hours. I have a wide range of knowledge under my belt, some from experience and some from schooling. I have my degree in Child Psychology from San Francisco State. I have a minor in recreation and leisure management.

Doterra has made it so easy to learn and share their wonderful products.

They have webinars, youtube videos, and knowledgeable staff. It’s doesn’t feel like work when I’m doing workshops on DIY relaxing bath balls, or clove and coconut oil blends for teething infants. I think of myself as a giver, healer maybe even a white mage.

I’ve always been a team player, while I like to lead sometimes, helping the bigger picture was always my goal. As I have grown older, I have learned not to “reinvent the wheel”.

I joined Doterra when my good friend Kristina

She has been a wellness advocate for 6 years. She was a bridesmaid at my wedding. We are friends on Facebook and I saw she had a doterra promotion on Facebook. It had been a while since we had talked,  I messager her and I was off and running. I signed up for the Natural solutions, Fast track kit. Its had some many wonderful products to try. Early Labor to Active Labor

Early Labor has begun…what now?

Staying calm and resting is the best thing to do in early labor. Active labor can be minutes, hours or days. Diffusing vetiver and ylang-ylang to bring on calm and peacefulness to the room.  Blended supplements are an important part of the foundation of a healthy pregnancy. The doterra Vitality pack is a great choice.

Everything for the new moms to be. Essential oils and plant-based supplements

Adding essential blends Peace and Balance from Doterra in a roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil is a must. You can roll it everywhere for relief.  As early labor begins, back cramps or back labor begins for me. Having that roller ball of frankincense, lavender and peppermint massaged into your back or the soles of the feet to provide great relief. Clarey sage applied with firm pressure above the ankle on and off every 15 minutes to support contractions. The contractions have to get longer, stronger and closer together. Prepare yourself.

As contractions begin to get closer together, we usually,  start with waking up your ride to the hospital and all loved ones who need to know. Your little bundle of joy is about to arrive. Just put a drop in your palms rub back and fouth and cup your hands and inhale the sweetness and peace. If this is your first or tenth labor, staying calm and not harming your partner, or anyone within reach, is their top priority. Just keep breathing they always say. You can apply the oils to your back, soles of your feet and stomach.

Next level is the transition or a flight or fight reflex happens, it can take a minute to hours. Frankincense, lavender, and Melissa rub in the back of the neck for grounding and calm before final pushing begins. Basil diluted and applied to the temples, help the feeling of depletion. Also, a great time to have peppermint beadlet for rejuvenation and to open those airways for everyone. The adrenaline is pushing now. Like the last mile of a marathon, pushing your baby out is truly crossing the finish line. This the perfect time for Motivate roller ball. This begins with the feelings of belief and courage.

A few drops of  Geranium oil added to warm olive oil around the babies head helps with the crowning.Massage lavender, Clarey sage, and helichrysum on your abdomen to help your uterus back in place. Read my next blog “Caring for yourself after the baby arrives”

Morning Sickness.

Oh Morning sickness, will it stop?

Did you find out you were pregnant when Morning sickness hit? It’s quite cruel how you feel like you have been drinking all night when you don’t.You feel worn out and exhausted and it’s only 7 in the morning. Most people don’t have the luxury of laying down, with a warm compress on their stomach and eating crackers.  Morning sickness can last all day and night. It can last the whole pregnancy, like my good friend Michelle, she resorted to acupuncture for relief.”If I knew then what I know now,” we say.

Pregnancy is always a blessing but can come with very uncomfortable symptoms.   I have had  4 children and 2 miscarriages, I was in the prime of my life and doctors couldn’t tell me why my body kept going into preterm labor. It was a roll of the dice: so I did what books told me and doctors told me to.I wish I would have had the knowledge then that I have now. Essential oils have been used throughout history. You may not know this but the best essential oil blend for Morning sickness is peppermint, ginger, fennel, and Digestzen from Doterra is the best way to ease your tummy while making a human being inside you.

I am quoting the webinar “Empowering your life series, that all customers can watch, Mothers and babies,  Learn from Certified Professional Midwife Stephanie Fritz, certified labor doula and childbirth educator Holly Lo, Registered Nurse Sarah Vansteenkiste, and Board Certified Surgeon Dr. Paul Winterton as they give tips and information about doTERRA essential oils and safe uses during pregnancy and labor. Was very interesting. They usually run about 20 minutes each. I have 20 or so of these to watch on various topics.
