Miss Jean’s Swimming School is in Marin County.
I teach swimming lessons in the central Marin County area. My main location is at Northbridge Recreation Center, 160 Madison Ave. I teach groups and private swimming lessons from May 1st to the end of warm weather in October. I also teach swimming lessons in private homes. There is a one-hour minimum, for private homes. Most parents split the cost with a neighbor, family members, and friends. It’s quite the luxury get your kids ready for a lesson at home. Image if you have more than one child, taking swimming lessons. One child is napping let’s say or needs a break, the other child can switch. This flexibility is priceless for the parent and student. I become a member of the family. That’s the community I’m building.
My Talents
I have an innate ability to see what is possible and put my heart and soul into accomplishing the task at hand. My belief in humanity and the ability to see the unique talent of every person I meet. This is one of my greatest qualities. My purpose is to move everyone forward. I’m a transitioner.
Teaching everyone to swim is my passion. I love beginners the most. Everything is a first for them. Big firsts. The look on someone’s face when they achieve a goal is… it’s priceless. It’s like getting a big surprise over and over. I love having interesting conversations with my students. Children have some interesting perceptions about life and learning to swim.
I learned the most from being a mother of four children.
I had four children in five years, having boundaries and a set schedule was my savior. The parent and child relationship is very important. I encourage the parents to be in the water with their child. Using rhetorical questions, in my class. I let students make choices like which skill we are doing first. We practice all skills and they have to be practiced 5-10 times. This can be a challenge. Some parents take a break from being in view of the student during the lesson. This is because it can be too distracting, for the student. We need to get the student through a couple of lessons. This with help the student get used to the route, parents can come back into view and maybe in the pool.
