Clementine essential oil comes from the fruit of the Citrus Clementina tree. This tree is a hybrid of the mandarin orange and the sweet orange trees. It is believed that the first clementine tree grew spontaneously in an Algerian garden in the late 19th century. It was then introduced to California where several different varieties were cultivated. Today, clementines are grown throughout the world and are valued for their sweet taste in addition to the aromatic essential oil that comes from the rind.
Keep reading to learn what science has to say about this amazing oil. It is also the POM for the month on 4/2020.
What Makes Clementine Different?
Clementines are distinctive among the plants of the Citrus genus. Clementines are more tolerant of temperature variation and don’t need as high heat as other citrus plants. This means they can grow in areas with more moderate temperatures. Along with the unique harvesting factors of the tree, Clementine essential oil has a distinct aroma that is similar to Wild Orange but with subtle Lemon notes. This is thanks to the volatile aromatic compounds that are cold-pressed from the peel.
Did you know that Clementine essential oil is primarily comprised of limonene, which has a host of well-researched benefits? Lemon and Wild Orange are staples in the daily routine of many essential oil users. Now you can add Clementine to the mix as part of a DIY surface cleanser, a morning diffuser blend, or a refreshing drink in a glass of water.

- Experimental research suggests that limonene has surface cleansing properties. Add three to four drops to your surface cleaners, enhancing cleaning power and providing a sweet citrus smell.
- When used internally, Clementine, due to its limonene content, may help support the digestive, immune, and nervous systems2-6.*
- To help ease occasional heartburn and indigestion, add one to two drops to juice, tea, or water.*
- Taken internally, the limonene in Clementine may promote a healthy metabolism and soothe the body7,8.*
- Diffuse to encourage light, pleasant atmosphere.
